An excimer laser removes microscopic layers of the cornea without affecting the surrounding tissue. This laser can reshape the cornea with such accuracy that you can see clearly with little or no need for corrective lenses, often for the first time in years. Treatment takes 20 to 30 minutes, although the actual laser reshaping of the cornea takes only seconds. 

What is Recovery Like From Lasik Eye Surgery?
